Product overview
Built for Oversised Loads. Certified for Export.
The 40FT Used Open Top Shipping Container is engineered to meet the demands of vertical loading, oversised freight, and crane-access cargo operations. Constructed with CORTEN anti-corrosive steel and a removable roof structure, this container delivers maximum clearance flexibility without compromising structural integrity.
Each unit is sold in cargo-worthy, wind & water tight condition, making it suitable for both on-site industrial use and international export when certified.
Key features
- Container Type: 40-foot open top – used
- Construction: CORTEN anti-corrosive steel with reinforced side rails
- Flooring: 28mm 19-ply marine-grade plywood – moisture-resistant and impact-tolerant
- Doors: Double swing doors with lockable handles for secure closure
- Roof Configuration: Removable tarp with detachable roof bars for full-height access
- Ventilation: Passive weatherproof vents to prevent interior condensation
- Forklift Pockets: Integrated for repositioning and mobility on-site
- Condition: Wind and water tight, cargo-worthy with minor cosmetic wear
- Age Range: 10–14 years old with structural certification available upon request
This container’s open roof design allows for easy crane-assisted loading of tall, uneven, or irregular freight that cannot be accommodated by standard shipping containers.
Why it works on site
- Open top configuration allows direct vertical loading of tall or awkward cargo
- Roof bar and tarp system is fully removable for maximum height clearance
- Reinforced flooring and side rails withstand repeated industrial loading cycles
- Moisture-resistant plywood floor provides long-term durability under pressure
- Surface oxidation and light dents are cosmetic only and do not affect container performance
- Roof bars can be re-secured to meet international shipping standards for certified export
This container is designed to handle punishing operational environments while remaining fully compliant for both domestic and intermodal logistics.
Typical applications
Oversized industrial cargo
Designed for transporting machinery, piping, fabricated components, or other tall-profile cargo not suited for side-loading.
Construction & remote logistics
Useful for crane-access loading at job sites, with heavy-duty storage and material staging capacity under open roof access.
Export freight
Fully compatible with intermodal systems and port requirements when certified. Meets ISO specifications for international shipping.
Onsite heavy storage
Ideal for rough terrain environments, field operations, and locations with vibration, dust, or corrosive exposure. Tarp system offers protection when full roof cover is required.
Certification and inspection
Each container is subjected to a rigorous 12-point structural inspection, which includes:
- Watertight integrity and panel security
- Floor fastening, compression rating, and wood condition
- Locking gear alignment and door seal compression
- Roof bar anchor point strength and structural alignment
- ISO stacking corner placement
- Forklift pocket integrity and underside weld checks
Condition
Used – inspected. Expect honest signs of service such as dents, scratches, previous markings and surface rust; structural soundness is checked before dispatch. Ask for current photos of the actual unit with your quote.

Custom solutionsDelivery
Delivery is coordinated Australia-wide from the Port Macquarie. Processing takes 1–3 business days; delivery is typically 4–7 business days after processing. The standard charge is $745 per unit (incl. GST) within our standard service area and is shown at checkout once you enter your postcode. Remote, restricted-access, multi-unit and oversize deliveries are confirmed by quotation.
Tilt tray: A straight run behind the placement point (typically about 2.5× the container length plus the truck), firm level ground and clear overhead height. The most common option for 6ft–20ft units: the tray tilts and the container slides off onto the ground.
Side loader: Clear space along one side of the truck for the stabiliser legs and the two lifting cranes, and room to park parallel to the drop. Lifts the container off the chassis and sets it down beside the vehicle; the usual choice for 20ft and 40ft units.
Hiab / crane truck: Firm ground for the outriggers and a placement point within the crane's reach. Suits sites where the unit has to go over a fence or into a corner a tilt tray cannot reach; reach depends on the crane model and the unit weight.
Illustrative only. Figures are typical; we confirm the vehicle and access with you before dispatch.
Site access
Before delivery, check for a firm, level placement area, clear truck access and turning room, gate width, overhead power lines and trees, and soft ground after rain. A tilt tray typically needs a straight run behind the placement point; side loaders need clear space along one side. Our team confirms the right vehicle with you before dispatch.
Warranty
Pre-owned units carry a 6 months limited voluntary warranty from delivery covering structural integrity and weather tightness, excluding disclosed cosmetic wear. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not limited by this warranty. Warranty policy · Returns
Questions
Frequently asked about this unit
Is this container wind and watertight?
Used containers are inspected and sold as wind and watertight unless the listing says otherwise; specialised units such as platforms, flat racks and open tops are inspected for structural soundness rather than weather tightness. Ask us for current photos of the actual unit.
Do you deliver interstate?
Yes. Delivery is coordinated Australia-wide from Port Macquarie. Regional, remote and oversize deliveries are confirmed by quotation before you pay.
Is GST included?
Every price on the site is in Australian dollars and includes 10% GST. Your tax invoice itemises the GST component.
